After 25 years as a magazine editor, I began indulging my itchy feet as a freelance travel writer. Although my focus has been  food and wine, cruising and spas, some of my most memorable trips include white water rafting on Chile’s Futalafu River, an amazing safari in South Africa, hiking the Cotswalds, getting lost after ice-fishing on the vast frozen landscape near the North Pole, and flying over Bardabunga volcano in Iceland.

Lavender Hill

Lavender Hill

The Lavender Hill that was home after leaving the city job, borders the Niagara Escarpment, two hours north of The Falls. And yes, I was part of The Mob. What some might say the Hill lacks in statuesque grandeur, it makes up for in scenic loveliness.

From this perfect place, my travels began and ended – from my dream house perched on the side of the hill, off a quiet dirt road with an “oh wow” view that never ceased to calm my mind and soothe my soul. Then the time came to downsize.  Going wherever the wind takes me, then to a new home is still the best of two wonderful worlds.
